OpenResearch

Billing

The only thing OpenResearch bills for is managed compute, which is prepaid: top up your organization's balance, and OpenResearch deducts usage at the provider's rate with no markup.

Where to find it

Open the organization's Billing tab on openresearch.sh. It shows the current balance, in-flight charges, automatic top-up, and recent activity. Click Top up to add between $1 and $2,000 by card, WeChat Pay, or Alipay.

What you're charged for

  • Managed machines, both standalone instances and machines rented for experiments, are billed per millisecond while the provider machine runs. Charges post in whole-cent slices.
  • Your own compute (local, SSH, Slurm, Modal, Hugging Face, and so on) is billed by its provider and never spends your OpenResearch balance.

Automatic top-up

Turn on Automatic top-up to charge your saved card whenever the balance falls below a threshold ($5 to $500), adding an amount you choose ($10 to $500). It needs a saved card with a billing address, and turns itself off after three failed charges in a row.

In-flight compute

The In flight tile estimates charges accumulating on running machines since their last billed tick.

Activity log

Recent activity lists top-ups, compute charges, refunds, and manual adjustments. Positive entries add to your balance; negative entries deduct from it.

Running out of balance

A balance of $0 or less blocks new managed machines, and running ones are shut down once the balance reaches $0. Top up or turn on automatic top-up before long workloads. Your own compute is unaffected.
